Groundhog’s Dilemma
By: Kristen Remnar
J PICTURE BOOK
After Groundhog announces six more weeks of winter, half his animal friends are disappointed, while the other half are excited. Each animal asks Groundhog to make his prediction in their favor the following year. Rather than being truthful about the fact that he just "calls it like he sees it," he leads them to believe he can control the weather, accepting their gifts of food and favor. Will Groundhog “come clean” about his inability to control the weather and his desire to please his friends? You’ll have to read to find out!
This cute, colorful story is a great read-aloud for adults to share with children who are learning to read on their own, or cannot yet read. Children will love Groundhog and his forest of friends, along with the bright and vivid illustrations on each page. The themes of honesty and good character are strong throughout the story, which would be great discussion starters for adults to share with young readers.
