Planet Earth is Blue by Nicole Panteleakos Available on Overdrive Imagine that you are a foster child with severe autism and when you talk, no one understands you. You have been passed from home to home, never belonging anywhere. Now you have finally been placed in a home with a really nice family, but your sister Bridget is not there. She and you somehow got split up and you don’t know where she is. She promised that she would always take care of you and she was the only one who could understand what you were saying when you tried to talk. If she is not there when you first start at your new school, everyone might see that you can’t talk and assume that you are dumb. You write Bridget letters in your journal, but you don’t know where to send them and your handwriting is so bad that no one can read them. You wish Bridget was with you. You both love space and she promised that she would watch the Challenger space shuttle launch with you, so you hope and believe that she will find you by then. But where is she? I would recommend waiting until after you read the book, but click on the link if you would like more information on the Challenger launch. If you liked this book, you may also enjoy Fish in a Tree, a book about a girl with learning disabilities available on Overdrive.
