Good Luck Bear
By: Greg Foley
If you believe that more is better, you might like this cute tale. You will probably enjoy it even if you are more of a “less is more” type, as it is filled with adorable animal illustrations and a sweet story about persistence. Bear is happily looking at three leaf clovers when Mouse informs him that if he finds a four leaf one, it means he is lucky! So Bear is off on a mission. It seems, however, that finding a four leaf clover might not be so easy! Check this one out and while reading, ponder this: what might be better than a four-leaf clover? Hmmmm

Baby Bear Sees Blue
By: Ashley Wolff
Here is a sweet bedtime story about an adorable bear. But wait! It’s also a book about the color spectrum! Science dressed up as a picture book! Now, I’m making it sound all text-booky, but really, this is a picture book about colors and rainbows. Making his way through the day with his mama, Baby Bear comes across almost all the colors in the spectrum, and at the end of the day he is rewarded with a rainbow! Books that teach colors are a dime a dozen, but what I really like about this one, is that Baby Bear is finding the colors in nature and in everyday things, like strawberries, or the leaves on a tree. This gives your child the chance to find the item on the page and recognize that “Hey, strawberries are red!” therefore “making connections” (which you will find when your little one starts school, is kind of a big deal)

Green
By: Laura Vaccaro Seeger Green is a children's picture book by American author and artist Laura Vaccaro Seeger. The pages illustrate different shades of green in nature, with cut-out shapes linking the different scenes. The cut-outs make this book particularly fun because they work on both sides of the page. On one page, the leaf-shaped cut-outs are green like leaves, but when you turn the page, the leaf-shape cut-outs cover the knotty pine trees and become . . . fish! It will seem like magic to your young reader. Seeger has another great book with colors and cut-outs called Lemons Are Not Red. This one has all the colors in the rainbow, as well as some of the mixed up colors, like gray and pink! Both books are a fun way to explore colors. |
