Seven Blind Mice
By: Ed Young
Based on the parable of the Blind Men and the Elephant, and (similar in a way to Duck! Rabbit!) this tale takes a look at how different one thing – an elephant- can be viewed differently by different people – or in this case, mice. Beyond the instructive, helpful nature of the story, this book has great visual effects. The use of the colored mice against a black background is striking. The cut paper illustrations are an effective way to demonstrate the different textures of the elephant parts. And the bold colors are perfect for the smallest children. Will your little ones be able to figure out what the blind mice are feeling before the end of the book? That’s a mystery in itself!
