The buzz going around is that WE MUST TEACH OUR KIDS FROM HOME! While yes, that is important, I want people to remember that this is a strange and different time for EVERYONE. Including your kids. While kids might not understand everything, they do pick up on emotions and nervous energy. When you are nervous and unsure about what is happening in the world, your little one is too. They might not understand what is going on exactly, but they do know their schedule has been drastically changed. Children thrive on routine, so while we are sequestered to our homes, we will do our very best to help them out.
But lets focus on things that kids don't learn in school. Take this time with your children to teach them how to cook, bake, or make art. All activities that teach skills like math, but are also therapeutic in nature.
I encourage every parent to take a look at Clarkston Community School Page for additional resources that the district is offering for children to learn remotely from home. Yes math sheets are good, yes reading and writing is essential. But don't get so wrapped up in academics that you forget to let your children find some type of stress relief in these ever changing times.
